    Zazzle Single Purchase Invitations - Open to Abuse - Debate

    There's an interesting discussion on Zazzle forum which has been raised many times before regarding customers being able to buy single invitations, the concern being they plan to scan and print themselves at home cutting out the middleman and depriving Zazzle and The Creator of their deserved income. Here's a summary with my very simple proposed solution, please chime in with your thoughts:

    Question:

    (Contributor III) proposes that Zazzle require a minimum purchase of 10 printed invitations to discourage customers from buying one invitation just to scan and copy the design and print themselves at home. They'd prefer they use the digital download option instead which reaps a greater royalty for the designer compared to single invitation royalties.


    Pros of requiring a minimum purchase:

    Discourages customers from buying a single invitation to copy the design.

    May increase sales of digital downloads so the customer can legitmately self-print with the royalty being higher for the Creator.

    Cons of requiring a minimum purchase:

    Limits customer options, especially for those who only need a few invitations.

    The customer might be buying an extra invitation to add an extra guest! They may also have edited the invitation so it serves a different purpose such as a small sign. In which case having to buy multiples is counterproductive for the customer.


    May deter potential big spenders who typically buy samples before purchasing a whole wedding suite (wedding invitations, save-the-dates, etc.).


    Difficult to enforce as customers can exploit free trials or discounts to get free shipping on a single invitation.

    Alternative suggestions:

    (Honored Contributor II) suggests offering a sample pack that allows customers to choose invitations from a variety of designs or papers.

    (Contributor III) proposes a system where designers can set their own minimum purchase requirements.


    My suggestion Zazzlepreneurs is a simple one. Zazzle should automate a watermark that is added to single purchase invitations with clear message to buyers that this is a SAMPLE only.
